Turtle Island Swoop Tee
This tee was designed by OxDx Clothing owner Jared Yazzie (Navajo).
It features a rendition of Turtle Island, the popular Native American name for North America, which encompasses Canada, the US, and Mexico. Prior to European contact, Native Nations traded freely up and down and across turtle's back. According to many Creation stories, Sky Woman fell from above, landing on turtle's back, which was surrounded by a vast ocean. Muskrat dove below to grab a small bit of dirt from the ocean floor, brought it above, placed it on turtle's back, and this small bit grew to form what we now call North America.
Looking down from the sky, North America indeed looks like the back of a turtle moving slowly about. We must never forget the wisdom shared by the Original First Peoples of this continent. We are better united than divided.
